You Can't Get It Back
by Big Dog inthe higher education thread got me thinking about the thing i loathe, despise, hate with the intensity of a thousand suns about the wbts, namely, the loss of my childhood.
i remember when engaging in blistering arguements with my parents about being able to play sports or take up an instrument or dream of being an astronaut, or whatever thing the society frowned on that i wasn't allowed to do at the end i would always get the same final reply, "when you are 18 and out of the house you can do whatever you want.
i can go back and play pop warner football, or little league baseball, or play in the school band, etc?

When you are raised by Chicken Little (WTBTS) its hard not to spend your childhood yelling door to door, "The Sky is Falling!" So, I too agree that the loss of childhood is a shame. Forutnately my folks weren't baptized so we were allowed many things others weren't. Of course there was always that rope around the neck, we were let out so far then yanked back. No army toys, army movies, etc that was ok to me.

"Jehovah's people" claim the Bible is only for them and that only they can understand it properly. They even go further and say only the annointed can understand it. So, why should anyone else bother? That's why the Watchtower publications are so crucial to their exitence. Take away the credibility of the publications and the Bible becomes a book for everyone.
By my choice I pray more and read less. More personal and direct.
Watchtower publications have become the club newsletters, too exclusive and out of touch with any other reality.

The most monumental conversation with my mom and dad.

i've been heavily emotional lately because of the katrina disaster and my temper and sadness and all emotions have just been on a rise lately.
well my dad was noticing that i was frowning so my father got sort of angry with me and demanded that i stop.

Not baptized? Cant be D'fd or Da'd. Some may decide not to associate with you if you get vocal and trash the society, er.. tell the truth, but none should care if you don't attack it or go out and rob banks and stuff. The world, like the Society has its share of users. Just don't become one and enjoy your youth. Always watch your back but don't become the paranoid jerk they want.

They never thought they woud die
by Dawn ini was over visiting my mom this week and i was suprised at some of her comments.
she would usually say things like "this system can't last much longer" and point to world events she was certain marked the beginning of the end.
she and my father became jw's in the 50's, were convinced armageddon was near, lived through the hoopla of the 75 fiasco.

My mom was acquainted with the truth for over 30 years but was only baptized in the 90's. She died in 2004 and among her observations about how the "Brothers and Sisters" treated her and our family during that woeful time were these words, "This is Bullshit."
Can't sugarcoat that.
